"The Alhambra, Audience Chambers" Alhambra Tip by Martin_S.
Alhambra, Granada: 218 reviews and 443 photos
The audience chamber is where the Nasarid Calipate would greet visitors and it is still there today to greet you, the present day visitor. Amazingly enough the chamber is not extremely large, nor the ceiling very high, but it is a mixture of many different colors and styles. From the ornate entrance arch to the multicolored wooden ceiling. Many of the motifs used are scriptures from the Koran, you can see a detail of one in the last photo with the colorful tiles underneath...if you do not know Arabic it may look like an abstract design, but following designs from other Muslim palaces that I have seen they are ALWAYS quotes from the Koran.
The arch detail you see in the third photo shows some of the colors that were originally on these very fancy pieces, today most is worn away and only the original white of the stucco remains.
