"Golden Mount or Royal Mount or Phu Khao Thon" Golden Mount - Wat Saket Tip by lucy60

Golden Mount - Wat Saket, Bangkok: 47 reviews and 95 photos

This is an artificial hill high about 80 m. It's history is a little curios. Rama III wanted to build the the greatest chedi of Thailand, but the structure, because of terrain instability, collapsed before being finished. So, Rama V decided to pile togethere the rubble and build a small stupa on the top. This chedi contains a relic of Budda and people go there to pray. Be respectuful. Climbing the 300 steps is terrible but from the top there is a wonderful view of BKK. On the way up it's possible to see antique plaques and Chines Shrine,
