Our Red Square is worth visiting and exploring.
It is located in the Old Town at the palace of former Cathedral Square.
There was St.Nickolas Cathedral in this square. The cathedral did not survive the militant Bolshevik atheist campaign and was “done away with”.
There is a memorial plaque at the wall of the present College of Arts that belongs to Shevchenko National University. The memorial plaque says there was a cathedral at that place.
You can see statues at the entrance: Orpheus and Three Graces.
The park with a fountain adjoining the building of the College of Arts has always been the locals’ and students’ favorite place for an outing. The fountain is, in fact, the oldest in the city. It is still in order and sometimes works in hot summer days.
