"Overnight Train Luxor/Cairo" Egypt Transportation Tip by Robmj

We did this from Luxor upto Cairo, they still had the armed guards posted on top of the train in 2005. The train leaves at 9.30pm and gets you into Cairo at 7am, so very convenient and quite cheap. We took a sleeper carriage which is a little more expensive but well worth it compared to the seats in either second or third class. Got a sleeper just for two, but it was still a little difficult to sleep as the tracks give a bumpy journey. Buy your tickets the day before or you may miss out.
