Known to the Chinese as the Altar of Heaven, which refers to the entire complex, The Temple Of Heaven is a unique ?temple? that is situated in the middle of a massive walled park.
If you leave your visit to the late afternoon, or very early morning, you will see locals flying kites, practicing Tai Chi or simply spending time with their families.
The Temple Of Heaven was completed during the Ming dynasty and was used by the emperor as an altar to pray for good harvests.
The red doorway is "an imperial color," the blue color of the roof represents the color of Heaven, the 4 main pillars holding up the roof represent the 4 seasons and the pillars inside represent the 12 months of the year.
