Foreign Cinema: "Great Choices in Oysters & Wines" Foreign Cinema Tip by YellowRose125

Foreign Cinema, San Francisco: 5 reviews and 2 photos

We took the BART from SOMA district to have a special dinner here. Walking the few blocks to the restaurant from the BART stop was a bit nerve racking, because we'd heard that the Mission District was best avoided at night. When we arrived without incident we were relieved--that made the greeting by the staff at the door all the more pleasant. Upon entry, we were escorted down a long hall lined with small candles that flickered and cast shadows along the walls. This magical feeling expanded upon arrival in the main outdoor dining area, which was still bathed in quiet evening light. As dusk approached, the overhead awning lights came on and the short foreign films began. Projected on a large high wall at the end of the outdoor seating, they were easily seen from most seats--hearing was not an issue, as each had English subtitles. Service was excellent--at the end of our meal, our waitress even calmed our fears about the return walk to the BART (we had thought maybe we should call a cab).

Favorite Dish: I enjoyed the wonderful selection of oysters on the half shell--over a dozen different varieties available from different locations. Everything we ordered was fresh, appeared just made, and was highest quality.
