The count Istvan Szechenyi played a really important role in the development of Hungary. He was a very rich man and, having no inheritants, he inherited all his money to the City. He sponsored the construction of the world-known chain bringe over Danube, as well as the thermal bath, bearing his name today, and many others.
There is a nice story related to the onstruction of this bridge. It was made of the extra-strong steel from England, under the supervision of the english engineer Adam Clark. Dominated by two while lions, the bridge was so perfectly done, everything seemed to be taken into account. And Adam Clark said: 'if someone finds any defects in the bridge, I'll jump into Danube'. There was a special commission, which examined thuroughly everything, and they didn't find any errors. And suddenly, the passing man told : 'Look, Adam,,, your lions have no tongues!'...
It was a very spectacular, how Adam Clark performed his promise and jumped form the bridge. Fortnately he didn't have any serious traumes and did not sink because he was a good swimmer :))

Address: Széchenyi Ter (Pest) to Clark Adam Ter (Buda)
Directions: Near Danube bank, ship station, at Pest side and over Danube, right under the Royal palace at Buda side.
