Thermae Bath Spa
A newly built Thermae Spa complex was recently completed (2006), after being 6 years late and 350% over budget. We spent one afternoon there and found it wonderful. When you enter, you are given a plastic wrist bracelet with a computer chip in it. You use this to open doors, lockers, dressing rooms, restaurant items, gifts etc. you then settle up on the way out. The whole facility is mixed male and female. The locker rooms are the same only because you have private dressing rooms available via your wrist band, no funny stuff occurs.
First you go to the lower level to have a Minerva Bath. This is a large varied shaped swimming pool with flowing current that lets you float around and around in thermal water using a supplied pool noodle.
Then you go with robes and slippers up to the Steam Room Pods. This floor has 4 giant glass enclosed circle rooms, each holding about 20 people, each with a different scent ? lavender, eucalyptus, etc. in the middle of the pods is a ceiling rain shower of thermal water. This blasts down in varying speeds and with laser lighting. Each pod has lighting of different colors. After each pod, you take a thermal shower, get limp as a noodle,
and then you can go to the roof top outdoor pool overlooking the hillside of the city. The rooftop thermal pool has hundred of current jet holes in the floor producing a bubble bath. Then back to the mixed locker room for changing. Massages are available with 4 weeks advanced booking. What a great experience.
