Bulla Regia is cold in winter and very hot in summer. That?s why its inhabitants built underground dwellings. These rooms, sometimes 6meters below ground, were fresh enough to spend the summer and nice patios provided light, air and a nice view. Notice the beautiful patio?s windows . . . they reduce the weight of the roof and let the light come down (picture 2). The air conditioning system (terracotta tubes) and evacuation system are also very interesting (sorry, I don?t have pictures). So downstairs we can find the saloon and the main rooms around the patio and upstairs there are the kitchen, the toilets and other secondary rooms. Furniture was very simple and impressive mosaics decorated the main rooms, using them as carpets (picture 3). However these houses are very big and rich decorated: I think that only few good standing families could afford a house like these ones . . .
