"White Buddha and Long Son pagoda" Nha Trang Things to Do Tip by magor65

The huge white statue of seated Buddha can serve as a sort of beacon as it is visible from lots of places in the town. The monument built in 1964, is dedicated to the memory of buddhist monks killed during the repressive regime of president Ngo Dinh Diem. The eight monks' images framed by flames can be seen on the base of the monument.
To get to the figure from the street level you must be prepared to climb 150 steps. Before ascending the hill you should stop at Long Son pagoda. It was closed at the time of our visit so we could only see its interesting exterior, decorated with mosaic dragons made of glass and ceramics. It's a working pagoda with some resident monks who seem to have a 'siesta' around midday when they don't let visitors in.
There is one more statue of Buddha within the precints. This time it is a reclining Buddha, equally impressive. Yet, I haven't found any mention about it in any guide-book.
Directions: 500 m west of train station
