Thuburbo Majus was well connected to the main roman cities around. The roads passed through a triumphal arch or gate to enter to the city. The western gate (first pic) took you to the roads of Dougga, Bulla Regia and Chemtou; the southeastern gate (second pic) was used to go to Hadrumetum (Sousse); but if you wanted to go to Carthage, you had to take the northern gate (third pic). All the gates are built in the same style.
