"Ponte 25 de Abril" Top 5 Page for this destination Ponte 25 de Abril - Bridge of April 25 Tip by keeweechic

The Ponte 25 de Abril (or 25th of April Bridge) was originally called Ponte Salazar, named after the dictator who ordered the construction of the bridge in 1966. It was renamed in 1999 to commemorate the revolution of April 25, 1974 which was when democracy was restored to Portugal. Not too dissimilar to the Golden Gate in San Francisco and in fact inspired by it, the span stretches for 2 kms. On the underside of the bridge is the railway line.
