"Cementerio de la Recoleta" Argentina Things to Do Tip by iwys
Argentina Things to Do: 447 reviews and 726 photos
In the La Recoleta district of Buenos Aires is the best known cemetery in Argentina. The impressive marble mausoleums here house the remains of the country's most famous historical figures, including presidents of Argentina, Nobel Prize winners, Eva Perón and Almirante Brown. Evita's tomb is marked "Familia Duarte".
The cemetery is quite beautiful and not in the least bit depressing. Some of the mausoleums here must have cost more than most people earn in a lifetime, and are more like palaces than tombs. You leave here smiling and thinking, I wish I could be buried here! One thing that puzzled me was the question of where all the cats that live here get there food from.
