The bronze monument to the India Catalina is another of those places we kept going to just because we liked it so much... and for no reason at all. The story wants that Catalina was a young princess from Cartagena that had been kidnapped from his parents, sold as to a Spanish official who raised her as his own daughter and taken away from her homeland.

When Catalina was 26 years she met Don Pedro de Heredia, the founder of the city, who took her back to Cartagena and used her as an interpreter with the local people and also helped in saving many of their lives. She married Heredia's nephew, Alonso Montañés, and mvoed to Seville with him. What happened to her in Spain, no one knows.

Address: Avenida Venezuela
Directions: outside the city wall, near the bridge over Laguna de Chambacú.
