There are many hostels for travellers in Medellín , but they are not located down town (but in more modern neighbourhoods like Poblado). I wanted to stay down town and I also thought a hotel there would be more quiet then some of the hostels could be (many backpackers come to Medellín to party).
I got a small quiet room. It was clean with a bed, a table, a fridge, a TV (with lots of channels), a fan and a bathroom. The room was 50 000 pesos a night (July 2008). By the reception there is a small restaurant. One morning I had breakfast there, egg (which tasted of ketchup) , bread and juice was 4500 pesos. In the reception there is free coffee.
Hotel Capitol is situated behind the Cathedral and opposite there is a small shopping centre. The area doesn?t feel safe to walk around in after dark, so I only crossed the road from the Internet café in the shopping centre after dark.
It is a short walk from the hotel to the metro.
