The palaces of Schleißheim are situated in a suburb on the Northern edge of Munich. The complex consists of three palaces (Altes Schloss, Neues Schloss, Schloss Lustheim) surrounded by a huge baroque park. They were built as a summer retreat by the Electors of Bavaria in the 17th and 18th century.

The visit to the park and courtyards is free while a fee applies to enter the palace buildings.

How to get there: S-Bahn to "Oberschleißheim", then 10 minutes walk (follow the signs).
Schleißheim is situated along the S-Bahn route to Munich Airport, halfway between airport and city. This makes a walk in the park a suitable way of spending a few hours' layover at Munich airport. Getting into the city centre from the airport takes almost an hour - too long for a layover - while the S-Bahn ride to Schleißheim only takes 23 minutes.
