Las Islas Ballestas, off the south coast of Peru, are nicknamed "the poor man's Galapagos''. They are teeming with wildlife, including colonies of sea lions, seals, Humboldt penguins, boobies, pelicans, guillemots, cormorants and Inca terns. A three-hour boat trip from Paracas around the islands costs S/.35 and I'd highly recommend it.
