As we were heading towards Bryce Canyon, we started to notice some bright red Hoodoo's. Wow! we all thought, these are amazing, little did we know that we were going to see much better a little further on.
Our Coach stopped at the Visitor Centre where we were able to find some information and also go for a walk. The hoodoo's were located amongst a Ponderosa pine forest which is the the largest forest in Utah. [Dixie National Forest] Trails varied in length from nearly 1 mile to 7 miles. At the Kiosk, there are 5 more trails. I loved these red sandstone formations, especially the ones called the "salt & pepper" shakers [see photo]
It is worth the stop, and on the road we drove through several road tunnels. It really was scenic in this area.
This national park is free to enter.
Directions: Scenic Byway 12, just 9 miles from Bryce Canyon. Passing through it is required to get to Bryce Canyon National Park from the west. From the east, stay on Highway 12, past the junction of highways 12 and 63 for 9 miles, to find Red Canyon.
