"Take a trip down the coast" Province of the Western Cape Things to Do Tip by dainebillmark

Province of the Western Cape Things to Do: 107 reviews and 131 photos

The drive from Cape Town along the coast to the Cape of Good Hope is very short, only 30 minutes or so if I recall, but there is plenty to see and do along the way, so you'll likely want to make a couple of trips!

Hoek Bay is a fun little town with occasional art fairs and a wharf where you can shop and eat fresh seafood. We went there quite often during our time there. It is only about a 5-10 minute drive from Camps Bay. Also the view from Chapman's Peak just past Hoek Bay is unbelievable, and worth paying the scenic road toll.

Noordhoek is further south, and has a GIANT beach. It is so wide; we couldn't believe it. I believe there are camel and horses you can rent to ride down the beach as well, though we were content with walking with our bare feet.

A protected penguin colony lies just further south where you can walk right up to the little guys! A National Park pass will get you in, and is worth getting if you also want to visit the Cape of Good Hope further south, and other parks in South Africa.

The Cape of Good Hope gives you a view of the ocean from high above at a lighthouse. A pretty good climb up the pathway is all it takes (or paying for a trolley). Definitely worth the trip.
