Old and new combined - Mainhattan

A trip to Frankfurt would not be complete without a visit to the financial district, lovingly called "Mainhattan" by Frankfurters. I'd recommend walking through the district as you will then be able to get amazing glimpses from the streets up the houses - some of them more than 200m high. This might not be an impressive view if you're from the USA, as American downtowns generally have some skyscrapers, but for Germany Mainhattan is unique. Furthermore, Germany's most important stock exchange is situated in Frankfurt, so you could call the city the financial capital of Germany.
Walking through the financial district can easily be done even if you've only got 1 or 2 hours for Frankfurt. Leave the train station and cross the street towards the centre. After 15 minutes you'll be surrounded by skyscrapers and your view will most likely be turned to the sky from now on. Impressive buildings are the Commerzbank Tower, the Main Tower and many other bank-owned skyscrapers.

Directions: central Frankfurt, 15 minutes by foot from the main station (Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof)
