With the car, take the street B49 Limburg - Giessen. Take the exit at Solms-Burgsolms. Braunfels is signposted, from there it's about 7 km.

With public transport it's not so easy as Braunfels doesn't have a train station. You can take the train Solms (railway line Limburg - Giessen) or Waldsolms-Brandoberndorf (railway line from Bad Homburg) and from there you'll have to take a bus to Braunfels. There are also busses from Wetzlar. Check the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund page to get your best local connection.
