Varnhem is a small village situated on the E20 from Göteborg direction Skövde. The whole region is full a small lakes.

Special, in this village, is the monastery of Varnhem, which was built 1150.
At the end of the 13th century, it was the biggest church building in whole Sweden.

After the reformation of Gustav Vasa in 1527, the monastery and the church had to be closed in 1533.

Today you can see only the ruins of the monastery but the church is a huge and imposant building with wooden roof.

Don?t miss a walk in the surrounding park and cemetery and look at the old trees and tombs.
