"Orongo Cermonial Village" Easter Island Things to Do Tip by krissyM

Easter Island Things to Do: 304 reviews and 693 photos

Built into the side of the Rano Kau volcano, the Orongo Cermonial Village looks out onto the ocean. The houses have walls built with hozizontally overlaping stones with an earth covered arched roof. Due to the weight of the roof the walls have to be very thick. As a results the doorways are very small, barely big enough to crawl through.

This fragile outcrop is where bird-cult rituals were performed in the 18th and 19th centuries.
