Pod Zlota Pipa (Golden Pipe): "Fancy a Game of "Vodka Chess"?" Krakow Restaurant Tip by johngayton

This is another of Krakow's atmospheric underground bar/restaurants situated in cellars: in this case just off Florianska Street. Zlota Pipa has a smart, nostalgically-themed, informal bar as well as a slightly more formal restaurant and customers are as welcome to drop in just for a drink or snack as they are for a full-blown repast.
Service is swift and friendly and the menu features traditional Polish dishes such as "Flaki po Krakowsku" (Tripe) and "Golonka Pieczona w Piwie" (Knuckle of Pork).
The "House Speciality" however is not so much the food but the opportunity to have a game of "Vodka Chess", where the pieces are shot glasses filled with various vodkas which have to be downed when they get captured. I was tempted to have a game by myself but it was a bit early in the day and I would have probably cheated by making gratuitous captures!!
Yep, nice place and well worth a revisit next time.
Favorite Dish: I only had a light lunch here and opted for the Kielbasa Biala z Kapusta (white sausage with cabbage and peas), washed down of course by the obligatory beer - well you can't have sausage without beer, can you? The sausage was tasty, the beer cold and despite being slightly pricier than most places was exactly what I was after for my lunch.
Address: ul Florianska 30
Price Comparison: more expensive than average
Directions: Down an alley on the left heading towards the Florian Gate from the main square, the main sign is on the street itself.
BTW Website is worth a visit and has English options.
