The Royal Coin Cabinet is part of the organisation of the Museums of National Antiquities. The Royal Coin Cabinet is a specialized museum with a national responsibility in areas such as the history of money and finance as well as medals.

The collection contains coins and other means of payment as well as medals and other objects with numismatic connection from all of the world. The museum is in charge of keeping the national register of coin hoards up to date. Taking care of the collection, showing it to the public and keeping it in order, is something we take most seriously.

The museum is, through our exhibitions, responsible to make the collection accessible to the public. The Royal Coin Cabinet should, in other words, depict the history of man over a period of 2500 years from an economical point of view. The museum should also be of service to scholars; lending objects to Swedish and foreign museums. The main objective is to maintain our cultural heritage as well as working for an increased interest and a greater knowledge in history.

The Royal Coin Cabinet should safeguard the freedom of speech and create real/ actual means for everyone to use it. The museum is supposed to work for everyone´s equal opportunity to participate in the cultural life, to have cultural experiences and to be creative ourselves.
