"Anakena Beach: Ahu Nau Nau" Easter Island Things to Do Tip by krissyM

Easter Island Things to Do: 305 reviews and 695 photos

Anakena Beach contains two archealogical sites.

This Ahu contains seven Moai, four of which have top knots.

During the excavation of Ahu Nau Nau archeologists learned that the statues were in fact not "blind" but contained eyes made of coral, rock and shell. Only a single eye has been uncovered and currently is on display in the museum. It is alos important to note that the eye socket was not carved until the statue had been erected. It is therefor possible to tell which Moais were knocked down and which were in transit when the society fell.
