"Anakena Beach" Easter Island Things to Do Tip by krissyM

Easter Island Things to Do: 304 reviews and 693 photos

Anakena Beach is one of only two sand beaches on the entire island and it's largest. It is truly an idylic spot.

Anakena beach also has symbolic significance. Historically it is the landing place of the Hotu Matua and ariki mau (first settler and High King). It is said that one of the caves that line the beach was the Hotu Matua's dwelling as he awaited for completion of his hare paenga (permanent dwelling).

There are also two significant archelogical sites as well on this beach. See other tips.
