The City Market: "Food Shopping in Burgas" Top 5 Page for this destination Burgas Shopping Tip by johngayton

Generally speaking most Bulgarians tend to shop at their local small shops rather than large supermarkets but every town also has its market offering the freshest of local produce. Here in Burgas is no exception and the main city market is located at the far end of Ferdinandova Street.
What to buy: This is a covered market much in the same vein as our "Pannier" markets here in Devon and the stalls abound with gloriously colourful displays of fruit and vegetables, mostly from the surrounding countryside. In addition to the main market hall there are also several other shops in the vicinity selling fresh meat, cheeses and delicatessen-type goods.
What to pay: Obviously as a market what you pay depends on what you buy but I was particularly impressed with the cheapness of the prices (as well as the obvious quality). For instance one of the butcher's shops had milk-fed lamb for sale at 9 Leva per Kilo which here in the UK would cost at least the same in Pounds per Pound!
Address: 2 Ferdinandova (??)
Directions: Towards the far end of Ferdinandova, at the corner (I think) of Debelt (??)
Theme: Food and Drink
