"Stay on the paths" West Lulworth Warnings Or Dangers Tip by toonsarah
West Lulworth Warnings and Dangers: 2 reviews and 6 photos
As you walk the various cliff paths at Lulworth and the surrounding area, you will see many signs like the one in this photo. Please, do as they say and stay on the paths, as the cliffs here are unstable and crumbling in places. When we were there it was very windy and therefore even more important to stay well back from the edge as the sudden gusts made standing still quite difficult. Needless to say, you must be especially careful if you have young children with you. I saw several families where the children were being carried by a parent rather than risk them running too close to the edge. For the same reason, please keep your dog on a lead.
Be careful too on the beaches at the foot of these steep cliffs, especially if you see fallen rocks that suggest that the cliff face is liable to erosion, as many here are. Do not stand under or climb up these cliffs. I read on a website how in August 2002 a 14 year old German student, on a day out with other students, was walking on the beach at Stair Hole when rocks fell from the cliff. Sadly, she received serious head injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital.
