Of course, what would any guide to Moscow be without a tip on Red Square? We were unfortunate enough to arrive on March 13 - four days after Den' pobedy, Victory Day, where military parades and festivities mark the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany. Nevertheless, the signs were still up for the events. In and of itself, Red Square is nothing special really, just sort of a stomping ground. The amazement and amusement comes primarily from the buildings around the square. The one thing that you should always make sure of, if the day is cloudy, is to bring an umbrella. We were caught in a few showers, and quickly discovered that there is almost no cover you can take if you're down near St. Basil's Cathedral.
