Do not miss out on the 37 mile senic drive up from sea level to the summit of Haleakala volcano (10,023 ft or 3 055 m). It is one of the greatest elevation gains on the shortest distance in the world. The views from up there are fantastic. You will even see over to Big Island with Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea. From the Haleakala Visitor center you can do some nice hiking ( from less than an hour to as long as 3 days). We did a hike down the Sliding Sands Trail to Halali'i crater. On the way you will be able to see some old (dead) silverswords and enjoy the different colors of the area.

Address: Haleakala Nationalpark
Directions: Route 378 up and up and up
