A 16: "Too Wonderful for Words" A16 Restaurant Tip by jakelorenzo

A16 Restaurant, San Francisco: 5 reviews and 2 photos

A 16 is small, noisy and very hip, but they serve incredible food. Like real Italian food, the secret at A 16 is the freshness of the ingredients and the simplicity of the dishes. It is not about complex sauces, elevation and odd taste combinations. It is about straight-forward, incredible fresh flavors that shine through with perfect clarity.

House cured meats, fresh, wood oven pizzas, wonderful vegetable combinations in delicious broth, unforgettable meat balls. Almost everything is delicious. Every now and then something won't sing, but nobody's perfect.

The wine list is extensive and almost exclusively Italian, but the servers are knowledgeable and helpful. Unfortunately, there are very few bargains on the list, so for those of us on budgets, finding good wine to go with the food can be problematical.

Favorite Dish: There are so many delicious things here that it is hard to go wrong, and choices change all the time, but if they offer, be sure to have the meatballs. They are moist, succulent and flavorful. The thin crust pizza is consistently wonderful.
