pictured is the monument to the seige of st. cyril and st. methodius after the assassination of reinhardt heydrich. today you can still see the bullet holes from the seige. reinhardt heydrich was the reich protector of bohemia and moravia during the nazi occupation of czechoslavika. with the help of the british, jozef gabcik and jan kubis and five other czechs were assigned to assassinate heydrich. on may 27th 1942 kubis threw a bomb at heydrich's car on his way to work at prague castle. heydrich died of his wounds eight days later. after the assassination kubis and gabcik hid in the church of st. cyril and st. methodius. they were betrayed by karel curda and the gestapo moved in on the church. kubis was shot and gabcik commtted suicide during the attack. thousands of czechs were later killed in reprisals for the assassination. st. cyril and st. methodius church is an interesting place to visit for students of 20th century history.
