<b>KATHAK DANCING</b> originated in northern India as a devotional dance, and is also said to have mythological origins. According to legend, Lord Shiva was so captivated by the beauty of Parvati that he expressed himself by dance. Thus one of Shiva's <font color=orange><b>AVATARS</font></b> or incarnations is <font color=red><b>NATRAJ</font></b>, the lord of the dance. Indian classical dance generally begins with a tribute to Natraj. With the advent of the moghuls into northern India, Kathak was transformed from a temple dance to a courtly dance. The moghuls did not relate to kathak's religious significance, and starving artists accepted offers to entertain the nobles in their courts. <b>KATHA</b> means 'story', and thus <b>KATHAK</b> is the dance of the storyteller...
