Zum Sepp'l: "More than meets the eye" Heidelberg Restaurant Tip by Husker_Jeff

We had been to Zum Sepp'l for beers our first evening to get away from the tourists (we went early in the evening while the tourists were still swarming the outdoor places). We did not realize right away that they served food at Zum Sepp'l.
We ended up talking to Alfred, our bartender / waiter for quite some. Alfred was very nice and we discussed things about Heidelberg and other topics. We asked Alfred where we should eat dinner and he said that Zum Sepp'l had very good food. We didn't try the food that night because we had a late lunch and we weren't ready to eat. But we came back the next day and talked with Noami and she confirmed that Zum Sepp'l did indeed have vey good food. So this time we tried it.
They were right. This was the best food we had in Heidelberg. Nicole had the asparagus with cream sauce and ham. I had the beef goulash with spaetzle. We were very satisfied.
So don't let the appearances fool you, with the old wood, old signs, and graffiti everywhere. They have food and it is good.
They also told us that the student groups are not welcome any longer due to causing too much trouble. I guess this was a popular student pub for many decades, and that must be the source of the signs and graffiti.
Favorite Dish: Spaetzle
Address: Hauptstrasse 213
Price Comparison: about average
Directions: Walk towards the east end of Hauptstrasse in Old Town, just past Kornmarkt.
