Goldener Hecht: "The best "Wiener Art" Schnitzel to date" Goldener Hecht Tip by Husker_Jeff
Goldener Hecht, Heidelberg: 2 reviews and 4 photos
After our walk up the Heiligenberg we were ready for food and beverages. Coming back into Old Town, we looked at a couple places and settled on Goldener Hecht because it had a decent outdoor area and we could sit in the shade.
I was wary with the location being right next to the Old Bridge, but that worry faded when we tried the Schnitzel "Wiener Art". For those who don't know, this is a pork schnitzel that should be pounded thin to mimic a true Wiener schnitzel. (Wiener Art = Vienna Style)
I had other schnitzels on our two-week trip and none of them lived up to the one at Goldener Hecht (except for the true Wiener schniztel I had in Trier). Goldener Hecht's version was the perfect thickness, pounded very thin so that the breading could be cooked just perfectly, without burning, while still cooking the pork. Tender, juicy, tasty. Perfect. Accompanied by french fries, as is the norm.
We also had beers, of course.
Service was decent, a little better than average for the tourist area. The price was also surprisingly reasonable considering the location. In fact, this was least I paid for Wiener Art during our trip (7.30 Euro).
Photos are from the website (link below) which includes a look at the full menu.
