"The Golden Hind" Golden Hinde II Tip by uglyscot
Golden Hinde II, London: 24 reviews and 51 photos
The Golden Hind was the ship of Sir Francis Drake when he first sailed round the world 1577-1580.
The Golden Hinde is an authentic replica of a Tudor warship. It has sailed over 140,000 miles and is now in a permanent berth.
The ship sits in a small area of water, and can be visited. The day I was there it was closed for a private tour by some school children. The guide was dressed as a common sailor of the day and the children were also in fancy dress..
A nearby shop sells gifts with a nautical flavour, t-shirts, cutlesses, pirate hats, gold covered chocolate coins- anything to attract the attention [and cas] of the children It is here that the tickets are on sale at £7..
The website says:
The children and parents have the chance to sleep on the gundeck amongst the cannon. Actors tell scary bedtime stories after a tasty dinner (vegetable stew and bread). A Tudor breakfast of bread and cheese is provided in the morning, followed by a snack of a doughnut and hot chocolate . The guests then change back into their own clothes and return to the 21st century!
