"Ta Prohm - Introduction" Khett Siem Reab Things to Do Tip by chatterley

Khett Siem Reab Things to Do: 559 reviews and 1,380 photos

Ta Prohm was a Buddhist temple built by Jayavarman VII (the same king who also built the Bayon temple) in honour of his mother. After the Khmer empire abandoned their cities and buildings, Ta Prohm was neglected and left to the forces of nature - the jungle. Silk-cotton trees and fig trees grew at the temple, and their enormous roots distort the temple foundations and buildings.

Ta Prohm is a "flat" temple (opposed to temple mountains e.g. Angkor Wat, Pre Rup etc), and was used as a location in the filming of "Tomb Raider" starring Angelina Jolie.
