Terrace of the Elephants (Garudas in background)
by chatterley

The Terrace of the Elephants is part of the walled city of Angkor Thom, and it's named for the numerous carvings of elephants. The terrace was used by the King (Jayavarman VII) to watch his returning army.

This picture depicts a 3-headed elephant (the Erawan, Thai name or Airavata). In Hinduism mythology, the Airavata is a white elephant which can produce clouds.

There are also carvings of garudas near the terrace.
