Reykjavík is surrounded by sea and we have many beautiful waterfronts.

The northern waterfront is a popular place for jogging and strolling. From there you have a great view of Esjan, which is Reykjavík's most known mountain, and other mountains and on sunny days you can see the town Akranes glistening in the sun.

On the waterfront, a 5 minutes' walk from Lćkjartorg-square, The Sun Voyager sculpture (Sólfar) is located. It is a big Vikingship steel-sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason (1931-1989) and a reminder of our history and heritage when the first Viking settlers came sailing to Iceland. On the waterfront you can watch the breathtaking sunsets, and on the solstice it is a perfect place to watch the sun touch the horizon and rise again.

There is a guided tour, which stops at the Sun Voyager.

Address: On Sćbraut, 101 Reykjavík
Directions: A 5 minutes' walk from Lćkjartorg-square in the city-center east of Skúlagata and Sćbraut.

A place called Grótta, a little west of this place is the best place for seeing the sunset.

Thanks, Lori :D it was taken on the solstice, when the sun doesn't set here in Reykjavík. It was breathtaking.
