Acropolis - Areopagus, Athens: 7 reviews and 10 photos
This hill (that can be seen from Acropolis) was the meeting place of the council of nobles in ancient Athens and later its membership was restricted to those who had held high public office like the Archons (the chief judicial officers). What?s more this was the place where Apostle Paul preached the Athenians in 54BC his famous speech:
<<'Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands>>.
Next to the hill there is a ruined postbyzantine church dedicated to Dionisios the Areopagite (a judge of the Areopagus that converted to a Christian because of the preaching of Apostle Paul and later became a bishop of Athens).
What you can do here is watch out the slippery steps as you go up, admire the Acropolis like everyone else and swear to ancient gods for your sunburn (there?s nowhere to hide from the sun here)! lol What's more as you can see in the pic the city of Athens is huge in ourdays so Apostle Paul would probably need a huge amplifier to be heard all over the place :)
Directions: it?s situated northwest of the Acropolis
