Pyramid, Karlsruhe: 4 reviews and 9 photos

The city of Karlsruhe was founded by the Margrave (like an Earl) Karl Wilhelm of Baden-Durlach on June 17, 1715. He had the city laid out in a ?fan? shape with gardens and streets radiating out from his palace. This was along the lines of the ?Sun King? Louis XIV of France who saw everything radiating from him like rays of the sun. It was his city, so he made all the decisions and lived the happy life of a Royal and did as he pleased. In fact he founded the city of Karlsruhe or ?Karl?s Rest? as a place to womanise away from the prying eyes of his own wife. When he died in 1738 he had his mausoleum in the shape of a Pharaoh?s Pyramid right in the middle of the market. He understood the Golden Rule. He who has the Gold makes the rules.

If you would like to check that Karl Wilhelm is still dead and that he is still buried here, check out the live web-cam link below.
