Turku Bar: "Turkish Folk, Nargile and Serenades" Gocek Adasi Nightlife Tip by cosycarol

Gocek Adasi Nightlife: 2 reviews and 0 photos

Upstairs above small grocer market on the corner of square, this Turkish Music Bar and adjoining nightclub has nice atmosphere. A fair balance of locals and tourists - usually livens up come weekends when Gocek experiences boat cruise changeover days; but even can be filled with local villagers taking a night out. Action starts late, go after 9.30 pm. Some filter in after they have finished office and shop work in this tiny village, perhaps their friends will drop in from neighbouring Dalaman or Inlice to join them for a raki. The host, Kurti, is true gentleman, tentative with his customers, will make you feel valued. He will sit you either inside the music snug, or if you prefer, outside on their L shaped terrace with its covered ottoman divans and small sofra tables. Try a water pipe (nar-gil-ey) too, if you fancy to unwind and enjoy the ethnic atmosphere. You are on first floor level enabling views across the little village square, and you can easily watch the locals busy selling their wares in the little adjacent shops. Enjoy some really nice turkish traditional 'turkular' - folk based turkish songs with meaningful lyrics and a duet group picking lovely acoustic guitars. Occasionally you will hear saz, oudh, flutes or drums too. On a lucky night the locals will get up for a traditional halay on the dance floor, do join in - its my best memories of a turkish bar! Everyone in Turkey usually sings along to their folk songs, its so diverse, and if musically talented (or not!), anyone may get up and do a turn, providing they know the turkish melodies that is! This venue is recommended for groups to meet up and has a cosmopolitan feel. There is waiter and waitress service of bar drinks. Try the traditional raki or a cooling beer (not both!). For the less traditional music lovers, you can bop along to the DJ music in their adjoining night club - so you can enjoy the best of both worlds. Do try it...
