The Po Lin Monastery is located almost in the centre of Lantau Island - the large island where the futuristic Chek Lap Kok airport has been built on reclaimed land next to Lantau Island. Reaching the monastery is via the ultra-efficient MTR from Central to the new satellite town of Tung Chung and then a local bus to the main entrance.

Strongly suggested is the lunch option of an all-you-can eat vegetarian meal in the main dining room. After stoking the internal fires of hunger plenty of time to explore the monastery (Buddhist), admire the temples complete with jewel encrusted deities, before the tramp up the incredible long staircase to the Big Budda. From the top most look out the views over the surrounds are spectacular.

Return to Hong Kong island via local bus followed by MTR
