Meet the Miss Texas Czech-Slovak Queen! (on the left). Although she is very pretty, this title is not only a beauty contest, but is based on poise, charm, good manners, talent and dignity. In fact, the organizational website states that it is an "ethnic" pageant.

We discovered 'Miss Texas' at Knights of Columbus Hall, one of the polka venues. These two amiable young women were pleased to be asked to have their pictures taken. Isn't the little girl sweet?

The Queen must be able to speak well extemporaneously, have a wholesome appearance and make public appearances at festivals, parades and other events related to the Czech community. In other words, she's kept very busy!
