There's a Safeway Grocery in town, and it gets its share of business, but the New Leaf Market in Santa Cruz County is a special store. There are 2 locations in Santa Cruz, and one each in Capitola, Boulder Creek, and Felton. This is actually one of several organic and vegetarian oriented places in a region devoted to the environment and good health living. Choosy New Leaf receives some of the best produce in the nation as it is very close to the best organic farms of the Salinas Valley. The store thus specializes in locally produced vegetables and meats based on the philosophy that global transportation of food is less environmentally appropriate than locally produced food. However, it also receives products, such as coffee beans and rice, from politically correct, self-sustaining, organic farms in third world nations. Sustainable seafood is a popular sell here. See the link below for the educational programs offered by the store for healthy environmentally friendly living. The store also has a pharmacy. On the parking lot wall of the store, there is a great mural devoted to Felton.
What to buy: Browse everything. The store sells food, and in spring sells organically produced seedling vegetable plants, among many other items.
