"Lapidarium Narodniho muzea" Prague Off The Beaten Path Tip by hundwalder

Lapidarium Narodniho muzea ( Lapidary National museum ) is located in the Exhibition center complex ( Prague fairgrounds ) in the Holesovice district of north Prague. The center is located next to beautiful Stromovka park, the planitarium, and the sports complex. The museum is housed in the beautiful palatial building shown in the photo. The architecture of this incredibly well maintained palace is best described as a combination of art Noveau and neo Classical.

The museum houses a collection of marble and stone sculptures and other artifacts that were crafted from the 11th. through the 19th. centuries. Unfortunately the museum was closed for renovations the last time I checked, and I don't know the current status. I will post information as it becomes available to me. In the meantime it is hard to imagine such a magnificent building going to waste. If you should visit Praha while the museum is closed, you can still admire the exterior of this great palace free of charge. It is easy and quick to reach by inexpensive public transportation.

To get there, take the Metro ( subway / underground ) C-line to Nadrazi Holesovice station. From there take tram #12 south to the exhibition center complex.
