Creevykeel is regarded as "one of the finest court cairns in Ireland", according to the info kiosk at the site. The cairn is fittingly located in Co. Sligo, as are many great neolithic sights.

Creevykeel dates back to the 3rd millenium b.c. It was excavated in 1935 a.d. and restored sometime afterwards.

It was kind of a ratty site, actually. The tomb itself was interesting, but the setting was a bit odd. There were piles of rubbish in the parking lot and the site didn't have any of that reverence you would expect to experience at such a major site.

If you happen to be nearby, or are specifically after neolithic monuments, check it out.

Directions: On the N15 Sligo-Bundoran road. From Sligo City go north on the Donegal road to Cliffoney, at the second turn off for Mullaghmore is a crossroads, immediately after is a car-park on the right .
