"The Falls" Amicalola Falls State Park Things to Do Tip by leplaya

This state park, an hour north of Atlanta, is known for two things. One is the 729 ft waterfall (one of the 7 wonders of Georgia). It's the highest waterfall in Georgia and from at least one source, it's the highest cascding waterfall in the US east of the Mississippi River. A few miles up from the visitors center there is a parking lot just below the falls. From there is a trail up a wooden staircase that takes you immediately in front of the falls (great view of the falls), from there the staircase goes up to the top of the falls. With about 600 steps it gets kind of tiring.
The second thing this park is well known for is the Appalachian trail. A trail that goes up the easter states, about 2200 miles to Maine. Every year many ambitious hikers start their journey here. Most start their hike here, 8.5 miles away from the start of the Appalachian trail.
