Poznan Things to Do: 141 reviews and 313 photos

Poznan is the only city in Poland to have two zoos. The older one in the town centre which dates back to 1874 and the newer one which was opened in 1974 after 7 years of construction. Originally the old zoo was going to move its animals to the new zoo and closed but was made a historical monument so this never happened. I went to the new zoo on a public holiday, mainly because it was one of the few places that was open. It covers an area of 116 ha making it the largest zoo in Poland and is best described as a large park with the animals dotted about. The zoo has over 2,000 different animals from 140 different species. Some of the main features of the zoo are an enclosure for Siberian tigers, a nocturnal house and man made lakes.

Address: ul. Krańcowa 81 (Nowe Miasto)
Directions: Close to Lake Malta (Jezioro Maltanskie). Catch a # 6 or #8 tram to Krańcowa, then its 2km walk to the zoo entrance.
